The Mission
The mission of the Negotiation and Conciliation Institute (NCI) is to lead community-based alternative dispute resolution in Uganda through training and providing resources and services for negotiations and conciliation efforts.
During each school holiday, we conduct at least one training workshop for teachers interested in working as mediators with Sub-County Land Tribunals to improve communities through resolving conflicts. Customary dispute settlement and mediation are provided for in Section. 88 of the Land Act 1998 (Ch. 227). It is provided for Land tribunals to appoint mediators on ad hoc basis. Teachers in rural schools are best positioned to meet the requirements of ordinary level of education and ability to speak English that qualify one for appointment as mediator. The holiday workshops are also designed to equip the teachers with 21st Century instructional skills. For more information contact us at:
